About this winery

The Massimo Lentsch estate, founded in late 2018, is located on the slopes of Mount Etna. Product notes

Spread across several terraces bordered by dry-stone walls and cultivated using young vines, the Cosentino vineyard, located in the prestigious contrada Feudo di Mezzo, represents the most authentic expression of Etna viticulture in its mere 1.35 hectares. Its century-old vines are planted in a staggered pattern.

Production notes

Hand-harvested with bunch selection. Winemaking: The hand-harvested grapes are partially destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, with a long maceration of the wine on the skins. The wine is then aged for approximately 15 months in oak barrels, then transferred to a stainless steel tank where it is naturally racked and bottled without fining or filtration.

Tasting notes

Feudo di Mezzo is a wine with an intense ruby color, revealing pronounced notes of ripe cherry, black pepper, and sweet licorice on the nose. Its palate is fresh and supple, with subtle, well-integrated tannins that lend it exceptional elegance and flavor. Pairs well with grilled lamb.

Danielle Callegari, January 2024 (Vintage 2021)

The nose is textured and rich with aromas of dried thyme, dried cherries and orange peel. Notes of fresh cherries and milk chocolate on the palate are still in tension with bitter citrus, evolving onto a spicy, peppery finish. Vehement tannins stand up to ominous storm clouds of acid.

James Suckling, July 2024 (Vintage 2021)

A focused, bright red with plum and cherry character as well as some vanilla. Medium-bodied, it has crunchy fruit and a juicy finish. Better in a year or two but very drinkable.
