About this winery

The Massimo Lentsch estate, founded in late 2018, is located on the slopes of Mount Etna. Already the owner of the Tenuta di Castellaro estate on the island of Lipari, Lentsch wanted to embark on a new adventure in volcanic soils and create a niche wine production with unique characteristics of charm and elegance. From this came the new project dedicated to researching and preserving ancient winemaking methods. The core principles are respect for nature and the environment, achieved through the...

Product notes

Our first Etna Bianco was born in the vineyards of Feudo Gabelle, next to an old palmento where the new winery now stands. The vines, trained in the goblet style, face north at an altitude of approximately 600 meters, which promotes optimal aromatic development. They grow in varied soils, characterized by stony alluvial soils in the lower sections and sandy soils rich in lava blocks and volcaniclastic deposits in the higher sections. It is here that we cultivate Carricante, which, vinified as a single varietal, gives rise to our Etna Bianco DOC.

Production notes

The harvest is done by hand: the finest grapes are selected in the vineyard and then quickly transported to the winery to prevent oxidation and fermentation. After destemming and gentle pressing, the grapes undergo several hours of cold maceration on the skins, followed by static settling and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Once the winemaking process is complete, the wine is aged on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks with bâtonnage (lees stirring) for at least six months before being bottled and further aged for four months.

Tasting notes

With its straw-yellow color and golden highlights, this wine reveals delicate and elegant aromas on the nose, dominated by notes of citrus, green apple, and summer white fruits, finishing with floral notes reminiscent of acacia and Mediterranean herbs. A balanced and remarkably fresh wine, it expresses a pronounced volcanic character on the palate with Mediterranean accents, lending it a beautiful complexity, and lingers with a pleasant mineral finish. Pairs well with fish and shellfish

James Suckling, July 2024 (Vintage 2023)

Quite a confected nose of almonds and marzipan with pears and lemon candies. Light-bodied, this has crisp acidity and a lean finish. It’s fruity yet lacks personality. Drink now.
