About this winery

Cantine Rizzi is one of the most impressive wineries in Piedmont. Situated atop a ridge on the road (via Rizzi) that leads to Treiso (one of the best sub-areas of Barbaresco), the estate offers some of the most spectacular 360 degree views you will find anywhere. Product notes

Soil: white clay-limestone marls, alternating with sand. First year of production: 1974 under the name Barbaresco Rizzi.

Production notes

The wine is made by hand in small crates during the first ten days of October (with slight variations depending on weather conditions). Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature not exceeding 30°C for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked and undergoes malolactic fermentation for one month. Following aging for approximately 12 months in large oak barrels, then in concrete tanks for 6 to 9 months, the wine is bottled before being released for sale.

Tasting notes

BARBARESCO garnet in color with orange reflections typical of Nebbiolo. The nose has a fragrant and crisp aroma, with hints of red fruits and flavors of berries, and herbs, with floral and spicy notes. On the palate shows a great texture and tannic structure, with a nice sweetness, delicacy, elegance, great balance and fine tannins and a long finish, fruity and nervous.

James Suckling, January 2025 (Vintage 2022)

Restrained in style, with aromas of watermelon, yellow stone fruit and a touch of pepper. Light- to medium-bodied, it shows ripe tannins and refreshing acidity with good length. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.
