About this winery

Cantine Rizzi is one of the most impressive wineries in Piedmont. Situated atop a ridge on the road (via Rizzi) that leads to Treiso (one of the best sub-areas of Barbaresco), the estate offers some of the most spectacular 360 degree views you will find anywhere. Since 1974, the Dellapiano family (led by Ernesto and now his son Enrico) has produced a variety of wines, including Barbera, Dolcetto, Sparkling, Chardonnay and especially four single site and select Barbarescos. In general, the style...

Product notes

Vigna Boito is located on the upper part of the Rizzi Cru. The soil is geologically younger than the surrounding areas: more clayey and deeper. The result is a classic and muscular wine with a great aging potential. Soil: white marl clayey-calcareous. Year of planting: 1972 - 1995. Altitude: 240 - 310 a.s.l. First year of production: 2000 as Barbaresco "Boito". Then from 2009 as BARBARESCO RISERVA BOITO®

Production notes

Manual in small crates, in the first ten days of October (with slight variations depending on weather conditions). Fermentation and maceration: In stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature not over the 30°C for a peiod of about 4 weeks. Following the alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked and undergoes a malolactic fermentation, which normally lasts a month. Ageing: for about 18-21 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and then bottled before being released onto the market (not before than 50 months since November 1st following the harvest).

Tasting notes

Full, brilliant carnet-red in color. It has clean-cut perfumes with notes of rose and a very crisp fruit, fine tobacco and mint, plus a slight whiff of licorice, black pepper and cloves. Its taste is full and mellow, very balanced, with a nice and rich tannic structure. It's a Barbaresco austere, masculine, muscular; a Barbaresco intended for long aging, and that will give great emotions, over the years. Paring with Rib Steak

Lots of beautiful pure fruit to this with ripe strawberry and black cherry aromas and flavors, with some sliced lemon and wet earth. Medium to full body. Firm tannins and a slightly chewy finish. Just opening now and shows the glory of the vintage. Drink or hold.

With Enrico Dellapiana's artwork on the front label, the 2016 Barbaresco Rizzi Riserva Vigna Boito shows impressive depth and character. The wine comes out roaring with fresh acidity and all sorts of currants and wild berries. There is some nice minerality too. This wine is the symbolic future of this estate—tight, sharp and focused—and at this point, it is almost ready to enjoy. Maybe give it just another few years. About 4,600 bottles were released.
