Product notes

Slightly sandy clay-limestone soil, south-facing, 380 meters above sea level on 35-year-old vines from a small 3.5-hectare plot called Vigna Martina, located in the Monforte di'Alba region. First vintage: 1988

Production notes

The vinification of Barbera d'Alba Vigna Martina® involves alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with daily pumping over. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in French barrels.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red color with purple highlights. On the nose, it expresses intense aromas of black cherry and wild berries blended with delicate notes of black pepper and dark spices. The palate is pleasant and full, supported by well-integrated tannins and an intriguing freshness that lingers on the finish. Pairs well with charcuterie and meats in sauce.

Monica Larner, January 2025 (Vintage 2022)

The barrique-aged Elio Grasso 2022 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Martina has a sweet side with aromas of baked fruit, raisin and blackberry coulis. These give the wine a heavier footprint in a vintage that is recognized for its richness and fruit-forward nature. The finish is bold and softly textured. This is a 21,000-bottle release.
