About this winery

Elena Fucci champions Aglianico, an ancient and rustic grape variety, using a contemporary yet respectful approach that enhances its complexity, freshness, and elegance. The brand was born from Elena's deep connection to her family vineyard, leading her to refocus on oenology to preserve the land and her grandfather's legacy. Committed to ecological winemaking, the vineyard is chemical-free, hand-harvested, and operates with an environmentally friendly cellar design that minimizes energy...

Product notes

Verha is the second label from Elena Fucci, the renowned winemaker from Basilicata, which allows her to make wines from grape varieties other than Aglianico, the region's iconic grape. This red wine comes from a vineyard bordering the famous TITOLO, on the volcanic soils of Contrada Catavatta.

Production notes

The grapes are selected and gently destemmed, the whole berries are placed in steel tanks with dry ice for cryomaceration for about 6 hours. Then, the grapes are placed in the lung press, still with dry ice, for gentle pressing, then returned to the steel tank for alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature. Once fermentation is complete, the wine rests for about a month at a temperature of about 5 degrees for natural clarification. The wine is then filtered and bottled.

Tasting notes

This is an elegant and fresh interpretation, fruity and pleasant to drink. Verha presents a ruby red color, with pronounced notes of ripe and dried fruit, as well as light hints of roasted coffee. On the palate, it is balanced and fresh, with good tannins and a lovely persistence. Pair with charcuterie, pizza, and pasta.

Walter Speller, July 2024 (Vintage 2023)

Deep crimson. Very reduced and sweaty, which only partially lifts with aeration. Supple red fruit that is much less marked by the reductive notes on the nose, and rustic tannins. Something that would go well with simple, hearty dishes.
