About this winery

The history of Château Pradeaux dates back to 1752 when Jean-Marie-Etienne Portalis, a lawyer and co-author of the French Civil Code, acquired the property. Nine generations later, Etienne Portalis continues the family legacy while evolving with the times. Certified organic since the 2023 vintage, Château Pradeaux showcases Mourvèdre, the flagship grape variety growing on 75% of the 22 hectares of vines.

Product notes

This wine is made from young vines, offering the potential to be enjoyed in its youth. Able to age for 10 years.

Production notes

Light crushing without destemming. Fermentation takes place in cement vats, temperature-controlled between 28° and 30° for 10 days. This was followed by maceration with daily punching down. Racking and pressing took place on October 28. Racking followed by aging in oak barrels takes place at the end of November once malolactic fermentation is complete. Aging in oak barrels for 28 months for the necessary softening of the Mourvèdre tannins and its stalks in wood patinated by their age (from 40 to 80 years old). No new wood or barrels are used.

Tasting notes

Aromas of blackberry, chocolate, eucalyptus, and dark tobacco with a hint of garrigue, with softer tannins on the palate, while still reflecting the region's character. Pairs well with red meat and poultry.
