About this winery

Since 2016, Julie and Mathieu have been cultivating this land with a commitment to respecting tradition and biodiversity. They have been in organic conversion since 2020. The origins of Château La Grande Clotte date back to the 16th century. It is located in the heart of the Lussac-Saint-Emilion appellation, which produces only red wines; the 7 hectares of vines grow in clay-limestone soils. They are advised by the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland.

Product notes

Clay-limestone soil of the Lussac Saint-Emilion appellation

Production notes

The grapes are sorted and destemmed as soon as they arrive at the winery. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled tanks. Once harvested, the grapes, from three grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec), are vinified in tanks. This is followed by aging in equal parts in tanks and barrels for a period of 12 to 14 months.

Tasting notes

Very dense color. The nose is rich and deep with exceptional finesse. This wine is very well-balanced, both powerful and extremely smooth. The tannins are ripe and silky. The finish is long, thanks in particular to the retention of a lovely freshness. Pairs well with flank steak and bluefin tuna

James Suckling, January 2026 (Vintage 2023)

Plums, baked berries and chocolate cookies on the nose of this medium- to full-bodied red. It’s polished and tasty, with chocolaty undertones and medium-firm tannins. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2027.
