About this winery

The success of Château de La Chaize is based on respect for terroirs and the unique know-how acquired over 350 years. Using a parcel-by-parcel approach, the estate has 23 cadastral parcels, spread across the Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie and Morgon appellations, and each parcel is vinified and aged separately to reveal its character and uniqueness.

Product notes

The “Les Deux Amis” cuvée is a blend of a selection of our cadastral parcels, located around the Château. The soil consists of deep granitic sand. Symbolizing an era when the arts in the kingdom of France were at their peak, “Les Deux Amis” is a nod to the fable by Jean de La Fontaine, contemporary of the Château's founder Jean François de La Chaize d'Aix.

Production notes

Parcel-based vinification (100% Gamay Noir) / 100% whole harvest / Type of yeast: indigenous / Maceration: 9 days in stainless steel tanks. Remontage and délestage. No punching down. Sulfiting after MLF and at bottling / Aging: 50% in foudres & 50% in concrete vats for 6 months.

Tasting notes

The nose is open, with typical Gamay fruit, cherry and raspberry. The whole is easily revealed with a slightly sweet fruit tone. The palate is more sapid, with a mid-palate of half-potency. The tannic relief is fine and the wine has the flowing, digestible character of light terroirs. This is a cuvée that will be ready to drink in its youth, easy to drink and easy to understand.

James Suckling, March 2025 (Vintage 2023)

This barely medium-bodied Brouilly is all about elegance and precision. Generous redcurrant and wild-blackberry fruit but not the slightest bit loud. Also wildflower aromas. The gentle tannins build very nicely in the surprisingly long, velvety finish. From organically grown grapes. A cuvee of wines from two parcels at the bottom of the slope. Matured for nine months in large oak vats. Drink now.
