About this winery

Of Basque origin, but considering himself very close to French culture, Telmo Rodriguez studied winemaking at the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology before completing internships with Cos d’Estournel, Jean Louis Chave, and Trevallon. Telmo Rodríguez and his partner and friend Pablo Eguzkiza founded Compañia de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez in 1994. Product notes

This wine is a single-varietal Tinta de Toro (100%) from vineyards including vines planted in pots on sandy textured soil on gravel terraces.

Production notes

Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in cement and stainless steel tanks. Later, aging in cement tanks for 4 to 6 months.

Tasting notes

This is a juicy, low-acid Tempranillo with a leafy, spicy nose that brings freshness. Notes of blueberry, blackcurrant, and licorice are present. The palate offers grainy tannins and good balance. Pairs well with BBQ meats.

Luis Gutiérrez, July 2025 (Vintage 2024)

I hadn't tasted the unoaked red from Toro in a while. We tasted the 2024 Dehesa Gago, from a year marked by late frost on April 23 and a very warm summer. But September was milder, and the total amount of rain was 430 liters, more than the average; so the harvest was from September 18 to October 1, with slowly lower yields but good health and surprisingly balanced and expressive wines. This is the more reductive of the wines we tasted this time, apparently a common thread in many 2024s, a characteristic of the year. It has nice fruit behind that, and it's juicy and primary and has very fine tannins. This comes in at 14% alcohol and has mellow acidity and good overall balance. 33,300 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2025 after six months in tank.
