About this winery

The San Giuseppe Winery takes its name from the sharecropping estate established by Giuseppe Martelli in 1910. Abandoned in 1940, the estate was acquired by the Stella Viola di Campalto in 1992. Stella is deeply devoted to the rhythms, culture, and beauty of Montalcino. The 13-hectare San Giuseppe estate includes 6.7 hectares of vineyards. A great deal of time and resources are devoted to maintaining the natural ecosystem in and around the vineyards, resulting in wines that are pure,...

Product notes

Corso is the result of a blend of the San Giuseppe, Bassa vineyards and the lower part of the Leccio vineyard. All of these vineyards face south and southwest, with altitudes ranging from 210 to 290 meters. Bassa and Leccio are characterized by sandy-loamy soils with a good balance of sand, silt and clay, providing good fertility, drainage and aeration.

Production notes

Each vineyard is harvested individually and vinified separately. Grapes are sorted by hand and flow by gravity from the top of a three-level cellar. Fermentation takes places in small wooden vats from 20HL to 40HL with indigenous yeast without pied de cuve. Aged for 33 months in 15 and 17HL barrels, then 18 months in bottle.

Tasting notes

Aromas of red and black fruits, dried flowers, crushed stone, spices. Seduction, balance, complexity, fluidity and precision. Pairing with roasted squab with truffles.

Monica Larner, November 2024 (Vintage 2019)

On the market now, the Stella di Campalto 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Podere S. Giuseppe Corso is named after Rome's Via del Corso, or the main road that cuts through the center of the Italian capital linking Piazza del Popolo to Piazza Venezia. On weekend afternoons, it partially becomes a pedestrian destination thanks to its many shops and bars. The wine delivers a strong mineral signature with crushed shale and granite that gives this wine an especially linear and bright personality. Soft sweet berry fruits fill in the background. I love the tension and the energy you get with Corso. It shows fine elegance and complexity.

Eric Guido, June 2024 (Vintage 2019)

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Corso is radiant, kaleidoscopic, oral and perfumed. Rose and lavender tones complement bright cherry-berry fruit before taking on contrasting hints of sous bois and leather. This is juicy to the core, vibrant and electric on the palate, with silken waves of ripe red fruits tinged with exotic spices and a tactile mineral tinge. The 2019 maintains its energetic nerve and stamina, nishing wickedly fresh yet structured. Its tannins are soft-contoured, creating more of a framework than a blockade and promising decades of positive evolution. Simply spellbinding
