Product notes

Located at the foot of Mount Vulture (an ancient extinct volcano), in the village of Barile, heart of Aglianico del Vulture production, one of the most suitable areas with a unique terroir and microclimate

Production notes

The grapes, harvested in small trays, are transported directly to the cellar, destemmed, and sorted on the table. The whole berries are transferred to stainless steel vats for alcoholic fermentation and skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 200-liter French oak barrels (50% new) for 24 months. The wine completes its aging in bottle for 12 months before being released.

Tasting notes

A vintage full of charm and seduction: concentrated, rich, and balanced, with a deep ruby color. Elegant and supple, it reveals a concentration of aromatic herbs and spicy notes. Its rich, evolving fruity aromas—cherry and morello cherry—are persistent and culminate in a tobacco finish, supported by a pronounced acidity that gives it a pleasant freshness. Pair with meats in sauce or on the BBQ.

September 2022 (Vintage 2020)

It’s almost impossible to pull away from the darkly alluring and utterly radiant aromatics of the 2020 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo. With each swirl, tobacco, ash and forest floor give way to crushed violets, black currants and mint candies. It washes across the palate like pure silk, at first pliant and soothing, yet quickly gains a more tactile crunch, as mineral-tinged fruits saturate, and savory herbal tones resonate throughout. The 2020 finishes structured and incredibly long with notes of salted licorice, balsamic spice and cocoa that never seem to quit; and yet, through it all, residual acids keep the mouth-watering. This is deceptively attractive at this young stage, yet structured for the long haul—what a beauty. (EG)

James Suckling, September 2024 (Vintage 2020)

Broodingly dark fruit with peppercorns, earthy funk and dried black fruit. Chewy and full-bodied on the palate, with bold tannins that still need time to resolve. It slowly opens up with some time in the glass. From organically grown grapes. Give it two more years to benefit from bottle aging.
