There is freshness here with redcurrants, pomegranate, black pepper, flowers and earthy notes. Medium- to full-bodied, this has sweet fruit on the palate, velvety tannins, an integrated, refreshing acidity and a brilliant finish. Delicious to drink now, though this crunchy wine has aging potential.

The Rizzi 2021 Barbaresco Nervo does not have the nerve or the backbone that we've seen in past vintages. I am surprised by this, given how epic this vintage was across northern Italy. There are purple berries, pressed flowers and toasted notes of campfire ash. After fermentation in stainless steel, this wine ages in Slavonian oak, then in cement and then it goes into bottle. Production is 3,900 bottles. This is the estate's diamond cru, located in Treiso and measuring four hectares.

This wine comes from a historic cru measuring three hectares. The Rizzi 2021 Barbaresco Pajorè is quite streamlined and fine, maybe too much so, depending on how you call it. It shows mild aromas of blue flower, cassis and crushed stone. This is a production of 4,400 bottles.

Subtle notes of ripe red berries, like cherries and strawberries, with hints of lilac, red spices and crushed stones. Some blood oranges, too. Medium-bodied, polished and even on the palate with supple tannins that have a dusty texture. Juicy acidity and a crunchy, mineral finish. Drink or hold.
